The restyled Mustang LX is equipped with a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that utilizes 8 valves. The engine is mated to a Borg Warner five-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 1992 version.

In 1991 Ford released the Mustang LX to the car-buying market. The Mustang came in two configurations: GT and LX. The LX configuration is powered by the 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine, which makes 30 highway miles and 22 city. The Mustang competes in the Convertible market segment, in direct competition with Lexus.
