A high point in the coupe market is the Ford Mustang. In 2005 Ford rolled out an upgraded version of the Mustang with two versions: Base and GT. Sales for the Mustang, especially the Mustang GT, were brisk during 2005 and 2006. The improved reliability and the updated styling were responsible for the increased interest.

The two-door car with its rear-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Ford. There is strong competition from vehicles from Lexus.
