There have been several award-winning cars from Ford over the years, including the Ford Mustang of 1997. There are three trim levels to the Mustang, including SVT Cobra, GT, and Base. The Base version is one of the more popular options, outselling other configurations. Like in 1996 the popular 3.8 liter has made this a popular choice for convertible buyers nationwide.

The Mustang competes in the Convertible market segment, in direct competition with Lexus.
