2004 Ford Mustang Base Specs

The restyled Mustang Base is equipped with a 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 12 valves. The engine is mated to a Ford four-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2003 version.

The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Mustang uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. Load balancing is provided by coil front springs and coil in the rear.

The fuel system for the 2004 Mustang is a traditional SFI, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 15.70 gallons.

The dimensions of the Mustang Base are 73.10 inches wide by 183.20 inches long. It sits 53.20 inches off the ground. It seats a standard four passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 101.30 allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers.

The standard warranty period for the Mustang is 36 months, or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the coupe market.

The listed retail price in 2004 (MSRP) was $28,015, with a dealer invoice cost of $25,583. This price is on target the industry average price for a two-door Coupe.

MPG Ratings

The Mustang Base received a miles-per-gallon rating of 17 - 18 in-city driving and 23 - 25 when it came to highway driving. Being a gas-powered non-hybrid car, this was within normal parameters.

What We Think of the Ford Mustang

The 2003 model began the promise of the Ford Mustang. The 2004 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Ford hopes that the Mustang Base will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
